He killed in action 13th November 1916 on this date an attack was launched against the impregnate village of Beaumont Hamel which was captured by point of the bayonet and 6 or 7 thousand prisoners were taken in the offensive.
Military Medal L.G. 27.10.1916. This award was thought to be retrospective award, probably for trench raids 1915-16.
William arrived in France 1.5.1915, his M.I.C. card shows his star was originally named Kess and it was officially corrected to read Ness.
