‘For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in the attack east of Arleux-le-Gohelle on the night of 26th/27th September 1918. He personally led his men in the attack, being one of the first to enter the enemy’s trench. He personally superintended the clearing of the trench and the consolidation. The success of the attack and the splendid work of his company were largely due to his personal example of coolness and utter disregard to danger’.
He also saw service with the 1/5 Gloucester Regiment as a 2nd Lieut. Sold with photocopy research, a photograph of the recipient in three quarter length Gloucestershire Regiment uniform and extracts from War Diaries.
