Description
John Ramsden was born at Stratford, County of Warwick. He enlisted at Manchester on 19th Dec 1810 at the age of 29 for unlimited service. He gave his trade as a Labourer. He served with the York Rangers between 12th May 1809 and 12th August 1809 as a Private. He then served with the 32nd Regiment until 29th July 1817. Discharged in consequence of a wound on the right thigh, received at Battle of Waterloo on 18th June 1815 and being unable to march was unfit for further service. Hilsea April 1817. Pension 6d per Diem. He served in Ross Lewins Company at Waterloo when the company was reduced to eleven men. Company casualties 49 of 60. He is also confirmed as a recipient of the Prize Money for Waterloo and the capture of Paris.
