Description

Henry Bumstead was born in Plymouth, Devon, in February 1865. He joined the Royal Navy as an Ordinary Seaman 2nd Class in March 1886, and advanced to Petty Officer 1st Class in June 1898. His service included with H.M.S. Magpie from May 1893 to May 1896. This ship took part in anti-slave trade actions and in particular ‘Madina creek’ in 1894. Bumstead was ‘Discharged Dead’ after suffering a heart attack whilst serving with H.M.S Spartiateon 11 June 1903. Approximately 48 clasps issued to the gunboat H.M.S. Magpie.
