Description
John was born in Margate, Kent 25.9.1876 and enlisted 25.9.1896 for 10 years at the age of 18. He took part in the expedition against King KoKo who had attacked and destroyed the River Niger Companies post at Akasa and a few days later their factories massacring or capturing all the occupants. The book by R.B. Magor gives an account of this. John was discharged dead 11.4.1897 of pneumonia. Approximately 49 clasps issued to H.M.S. Thrush.
