M.S.M. London Gazette 3 June 1919:
‘In recognition of valuable service rendered with the Armies in France and Flanders.’

He attested for the Rifle Brigade and served with them during the Great War on the Western Front from 30 July 1915. Transferring to the Hampshire Regiment, he was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal whilst serving with the 19th Garrison Battalion, and was discharged Class ‘Z’ Reserve on 23 May 1919.
