Description
Thomas Satchwell (or Bolton) was born at Hilmorton, Rugby and enlisted in the 12th battalion No 1399 and age 17 years. He is shown as being at camp before Sebastopol 27.11.1855. He is entitled to a Crimea Medal with clasps Sebastopol and Inkermann.
Battery Records of the Royal Artillery 1859-1877 shows Thomas’s probable movement. 1859 Canton 1-6 with 4th Company 9th Battalion, this became 3rd Battery 12th Brigade 1.7.1859 Canton 7-12, 1860 Hong Kong 1-5, North China 6-10, Hong Kong 11-12, 1861 Hong Kong 1-12. China Medal Roll 1856-1860: British Army K. J. Asplin Thomas Satchwell 6/12 RA no 1045 Gunner (F 60) Invalided to England 26.12.1861
No further sightings but a death is shown at St Mary’s Madras India on 21.4.1869, abscess to liver aged 33 years 11 months Gunner? Battery 23rd Brigade. Buried 22.4.1869.(taken from a Find my Past listing)
No concrete proof it is the same man, but the age is almost the same and it is a very uncommon name.
