Description
Battle of Gingindlovu.
On the 2nd of April 1879 the 91st Foot fought in the battle of Gingindlovu, which was part of the Eshowe Relief Column under Lord Chelmford. All 8 companies of the 91st Foot were present. They formed the southern face of the British Laager and repulsed a determinant Zulu attack during the day, killing 250 of the enemy. Casualties for the 91st Foot were 1 killed and 8 wounded.
