Description
Gunner Amos Holliday, of the 10th Mountain Battery, R.G.A., was captured by Boer forces at Nicholson’s Nek, near Ladysmith, on 30 October 1899, and later released – as confirmed in ‘The Boer War Casualty Roll, 1899-1902’.
10th Mountain Battery – Was in Ladysmith when war broke out; was present at Rietfontein, 24th October 1899; and on the night of 29th October was sent out as part of the ill-fated column intended to seize Nicholson’s Nek.
