M.M. L.G., 27.10.1916 France, most likely a Battle of the Somme award. William was born in York and enlisted at Scarborough he was the son of Mrs E. Wilson of Bridge Cottages, West Ayton near Scarborough. He was killed in action age 22 in France. Rank now a Lance Corporal and was awarded a 1914-15 trio. Buried Heninel Communal Cemetery.
