Description

Daniel Diones was born in Sussex in 1856. He enlisted for the 3rd Dragoon Guards on the 25th of November 1876, transferring to the 1st Dragoon Guards on the 16th of February 1879 for service in South Africa.

He served during the Zulu War in South Africa when his Regiment was present at Ulundi on 4th July 1879. He appears to have been one of three officers and ten men from the Regiment to serve during this campaign, and this being one of only eight medals with Hazara clasp to the 1st Dragoon Guards. During the Boer War he attested for Loch’s Horse at Bromley as a Sergeant. He died of disease at Cape Town on the 3rd of June 1990. With extensive research.
