Description

Colour-Sergeant J. O’Dare was awarded the L.S.G.C. on 23 November, 1872, and the M.S.M. on 3 February 1899. According to ‘The Annuity Meritorious Service Medal’ by McInnes he died on 24 May 1906, and an obituary in the ‘Tyrone Constitution’ of 1 June 1906, reads as follows:

‘Deceased, who was 75 at his death, served for 21 years in the 27th Inniskilling Fusiliers, and retired from the service in 1871. He took an important part in the Indian Mutiny, and his family are still prominently connected with the service, five of his sons (including Lieutenant and Quartermaster O’Dare, Omagh depot) being in the army.’
