Corporal Tom Forth, of Hartlepool, County Durham, initially served in the Great War with the Army Ordnance Corps, later transferring to the 13th Battalion, Rifle Brigade. He was recommended for the Military Medal, which was gazetted on 22 January 1919. According to ‘The Great War Medal Collector’s Companion, Vol. I’ by Howard Williamson, awards with this gazette date mostly relate to the Battle of Amiens between 8 August and 3 September 1918, and this particular award is confirmed in the records of the 13th Rifle Brigade as having been made to Lance-Corporal Tom Forth during the month of August.
