Sergeant-Major James Birch is confirmed on the Afghanistan 1878-80 Medal Roll (medal without clasp) and is named in ‘The Annuity Meritorious Service Medal 1847-1953’ by Ian McInnes this his full entitlement. His Army Meritorious Service Medal was issued in 1927.
