Jack William Richard Woodcock was born Walmar Kent. He joined the Coldstream Guards, enlisting at Bristol 14.6.1932 for 12 years’ service and spent the next 7 years in various parts of London and the surrounding areas, Pirbright, Windsor, Tower of London and Chelsea. In September, by now a W.O. 11,
He was sent to France as part of the B.E.F., returning from Dunkirk in July 1940 and being sent to Shenley Hospital. He was discharged from there in July 1941 and was accepted to attend a Pre OCTU in March 1941, followed by an OCTU course in February 1944. Having now served 111/4 years with the Coldstreams and has obtained third, second, and first-class certificates in Education plus a special certificate, between August 1932 and March 1937.
He attended 206 Officer Cadet Training Unit from February to April 1944 and commanded the Passing Out Parade of the whole OCTU and had his name on the mess board as: Best Cadet’
In April 1944 commissioned in the Education being appointed SO Ed11 H.Q. London District with the rank of Acting Captain followed by Major in 1945.
Awarded the M.B.E. Military for ‘distinguished service in Kenya’ L.G. 8.9.1957 and attended an investiture at Buckingham Palace 23.7.1857 when he was presented his award by the Queen.
