Description
Born in the parish of Much Marcle, Ledbury and enlisted 1914. Killed in Mansura Ridge, Palestine 28.6.1917.and buried in the Gaza War Cemetery.
During this period casualties were few, but Private Symonds who has been Major Philips Groom when the regiment was in England, was killed by shrapnel under the ridge within a yard of his platoons’ shelter, the first casualty the Montgomeryshire Yeomanry has sustained.
During the period rations were good, the frozen rabbits, an innovation which came from Australia, proving a very welcome addition to the menu.
