Description
Henry Myland had a long and successful military career, a Private with the Cape Mounted Rifles from 17th March 1863, he rose to Corporal, Sergeant and then Colour Sergeant before transferring to the 96th Regiment in India from the 1st of May 1870, clearly problems arose as he was tried and reduced to Private within a year. He rose again to Sergeant in the Ordnance Department in Bengal having served with the 40th Regiment and time on the unattached list. He rose through the ranks to sub-Conductor, Conductor, Honorary Lieutenant, and finally Captain. He dies on the 18th of December 1897 in Calcutta from the effects of illness picked up while serving with the Malakand Field Force.
